Many EDC community members like to post pictures of their EDC into online groups for comments and feedback, and we’ve been taking a look to see what new EDC gear is trending alongside tried and tested favourites that are commonly found in EDC loadouts.
What Does Choice of EDC Gear for 2026 Tell Us About the EDC Community?
When you look at the Reddit home page for the EDC community, you see a lot of 2026 posts where people show what they are carrying as their standard EDC gear. If you make a list of the most commonly found EDC gear that is featured in these posts, it tells us a lot about the EDC gear preferences of the EDC community.
- Knipex pliers
- Casio G-Shock watches
- Fisher space pens
- Leatherman & Gerber multitools
- Zippo lighters
- Glock & Sig handguns (in the US EDC community)
- Opinel clasp knives
- Benchmade, Spyderco & Chris Reeves (CRK) knives
- Sharpie marker pens
- Victorinox swiss army knives
- Olight flashlights
- Ridge & Secrid wallets & rigid card holders
- 711L EDC ratchet wrenches
There are differences between US, European and other EDC gear selections, especially the lack of guns and larger knives outside of the US, where these are commonly included, but a common trend is to see EDC gear that is dominated by long-standing brands. These include Leatherman, Zippo, Fisher, Casio, Victorinox and Sharpie.
Many people include pens, watches and car keys in their EDC lists, along with diaries, eyeglasses and notebooks. You also see quite a variety depending on what the poster does for work, or what they intend to be doing that way. Office EDC gear is quite different to backwoods EDC gear! It’s always interesting to see people posting their comprehensive EDC drawer, tray or rack, from which they can take a selection for a specific purpose or environment.

Why Do People Use Long Established Brands of EDC Gear?
When we read the descriptions people make of their EDC gear, we find many well established brands featuring highly alongside fewer, more recent brands. From the comments it seems like there are two main reasons for this. The reasons that people give imply that their priorities are reliability and quality.
The Zippo lighter has stood the test of time for legendary reliability, and the ‘it works or we fix it for free’ brand reputation of Zippo. The Fisher space pen has, well, made it into space (like some 711L ratchet wrenches we could mention), and really will write on almost anything. Victorinox have been making penknives for the Swiss army for more than 100 years.
Alongside the reliability of these classic brands, we see a very strong emphasis on quality. If you’re going to carry a small selection of portable tools with you, then they need to be able to do the jobs you need to do, and do them well. Lighters should light first time, every time, even when it’s windy and wet, and your torch battery shouldn’t fail after five minutes.

What is Trending in the EDC Gear Community?
If we talk about what’s trending, then we can’t just talk about the standard EDC gear that people have been using for years, but we need to look at what else is appearing in EDC loadouts and online posts. What we do see is more examples of homebrew 3D printed accessories, especially efficient and compact holsters and organizers for your EDC tools and bits.
We’re also pleased to see how our own 711L EDC tools are getting traction, and are included in an increasing number of your EDC gear selections, with positive comments and feedback. Our 711L Lollipop bit driver fits in well with the durable classics that people love, and our EDC ratchet wrenches are clearly best in class for compact, hard wearing utility.
Another interesting feature is people who include retro tech in their EDC gear, including customized ipods, and we wonder if this is linked to the EDC community liking tried-and-tested ‘classics’ that they can depend on, but being inventive, thoughtful people, EDC fans are happy to mod and upgrade to keep their old tech functional!
