The 711L Y-Driver: It’s a 3-way tool, but not as you know it!
When we decided to make the 711L Y-driver as a 3-way EDC bit holder, we had looked at what there was on the market and knew that we could make something better. Three-way tools with fixed heads have been around for a long time, including 3-way screwdrivers, 3-way Allen wrenches and 3-way sockets, but they’re all limited by not being able to change their basic function.
When we surveyed the many tri wrenches, hex key handles, tritools and Y-wrenches on the market we thought about how what they gained in utility, they lost by not being flexible, and not having a simple name! Coming up with a descriptive name for our Y-shaped tool was just the first step in developing the 711L Y-driver: a versatile compact package that can be reconfigured as any one or all of these tools.
What’s the utility of a 3-way tool?
There are three features of 3-way tools that improve their utility and make Y-drivers a popular class of tool. The most obvious is that you get three tools in one package, but the shape of the tool also gives you more torque, like having a T-bar for each of the three points of your 3-way tool. The Y-shape also makes a 3-way tool fit comfortably in your hand.

Why is the 711L Y-driver a better 3-way tool?
We’ve added three more features to the 3-way tool concept to make our 711L Y-driver a better interpretation of this classic design. The first concept was to release the 3-way screwdriver, Y- wrench and 3-way socket from the limitations of their fixed ends. The obvious way to do this was to replace three fixed tools with three bit holders (and patent the design!).

Secure, quick release mechanism for rapid tool transformation
Our magnetic, secure locking mechanism is quick-release, so when you want to transform your Y-driver bike tool into a laptop maintenance tool (above), it’s simplicity itself to drop out your bike tool selection and replace it with the set of Torx heads and screwdriver bits that you need for your next project. And our new quick release locking mechanism is fully compatible with flat bits as well as standard hex bits!
Switch, mix & match your 711L EDC tools for total customization!
Let’s say you want to make up a tool for rapid assembly of flatpack furniture – just mix and match 711L EDC tools for total customization. In the picture above you can see our inline ratchet driver fitted to our Y-driver to speed up driving small cross-head screws. The other two bits are selected to match the larger screws and square-head tension bolts for this project, and the Y-driver grip gives you the torque you need.
The 3-way 1/4” hex bit holder is compatible with all standard hex bits, hex drill bits and hex shanked sockets, tools and accessories. This includes 711L inline torque wrenches, inline, right angle and flex-head EDC ratchet wrenches and our flat bit Leatherman multi-tool range.
