The New 711L EDC Torque Driver

711L EDC Torque Driver - 711L EDC-FU

The new 711L EDC torque driver is another highly functional tool from 711L to add to your EDC gear. Our EDC torque driver is precision engineered for accuracy, and is perfect for secure assembly of delicate or mixed metal and plastic assemblies in drones and electronics. Like all 711L EDC tools, it’s also tough enough for bike maintenance and light engineering work.

Why do you need an EDC torque driver?

You need torque drivers to protect delicate screws, bolts, threaded holes and bushings from damage while making sure you tighten fasteners securely. You want something that is small, lightweight, and portable to fit in with your EDC gear, but an EDC torque driver also needs to be precision engineered, calibrated to be extremely accurate, and not just a toy.

Safe torque for small screws can be surprisingly low. Often in single figures in in-lbs for the soft metal fasteners commonly found in light engineering and model projects. You can achieve correct tightening torque for most metric bolts up to M4 with only 3Nm of force, and you can easily exceed these forces with EDC tools.

Why does an EDC torque driver need to be well calibrated?

An EDC torque driver has to be appropriately scaled for EDC projects, this means it needs to be precise enough for low torque applications, where you need to avoid damage from over-torquing, and capable of delivering the correct specified torque to ensure secure fastening. Accurate calibration is essential, especially for very low torque fasteners, where less than 1Nm error in the torque setting can easily cause damage.

Applying too much torque is a common problem in EDC projects, and this is because of the scale at which you are working. It’s clearly much harder to over torque an M10 bolt, which will easily take 50Nm without breaking, than an M3 bolt rated at 1Nm. When you’re working on EDC projects with electronics, bikes, and drones, or even assembling furniture, you’re not likely to see many M10 bolts!

Why are EDC torque drivers essential for mixed material projects?

You’ll face the challenge in many EDC projects of working with mixed materials. You might be putting together a plastic or composite chassis of a drone or RC model with steel screws, for instance, or tightening a steel bolt into a brass bushing inserted in a plastic cover. Driving fasteners made from hard materials into softer materials with too much torque strips threads, and screws can easily split open plastic and composite moldings. This makes an EDC torque driver essential to protect your project work.

How can a 711L EDC torque driver help your EDC project?

  1. Faster, more precise electronic & electrical assembly & maintenance
  2. Safe drone & RC model building, maintenance & field repair
  3. Bike maintenance, repair & accessory fastening into aluminum & composites
  4. Furniture assembly, especially for plastics, fiber board & engineered wood
  5. Any mixed material fastening task
  6. Protecting small screw and bolt fasteners from damage
  7. Eliminating split fastener barrels & stripped threads

We’ve all had that sinking feeling that comes from just slightly over stressing a fastener into a plastic or aluminum component and getting the sudden drop off in resistance that tells us we’ve wrecked the thread, and are either going to have to replace the component or find a way to rebuild, recut or remake the connection. A precision 711L EDC torque driver gives you the reassurance of not having to waste a lot of time, effort, and materials on trying to fix damaged fasteners and threads.

How did we design the new 711L EDC torque driver?

The classic mechanic’s torque wrench is too big for EDC use, and it’s hard to find high quality compact or EDC torque drivers that are reasonably priced torque drivers for electrical, electronic and precision work. We could see there was a need for a high quality, high precision 0.5-3Nm (4.4-26.5 lb-in) torque driver that would meet the needs of small scale engineering projects.

An EDC torque driver engineered for cross-compatibility with your EDC gear

Our precision 711L EDC Torque Driver complements our existing range of EDC tools and bits, including total compatibility with our iconic EDC gear. Fit the new 711L EDC torque driver to your 711L Lollipop EDC Bit Driver, EDC Y Driver and EDC ratchet wrenches, and add a new layer of security to your fastening!

We looked at this problem from the perspective of EDC gear specialists who have long experience of working with 3D printers, drones, electronics and bikes. The perfect torque driver would have to meet our needs across the board, and be just as tough as our other 711L EDC gear to carry our lifetime registration warranty. The design for the 711L EDC torque driver also needed to complement your existing EDC gear, so it could be inserted into a Klein tool grip, or EDC ratchet wrench, or used with a ring spanner.

The 711L EDC Torque Driver: Better by Design

We hope you’ll be as pleased with our new 711L EDC Torque Driver as we are. We’ve taken great care to engineer the most utility we can in a small, functional and precise package. As well as the standard ¼” hex shank, we’ve threaded the shank to a standard M7 1mm pitch so you can slot it or screw it into a compatible grip. We’ve also included a 12mm hex profile that enables you to fit it straight into a 12mm ring spanner for total convenience and control.

What are 3 benefits of 711L EDC torque drivers?

  1. Protect plastic components from over torqued metal fasteners
  2. Can be set to the precise specified torque for secure assembly
  3. It’s easy to set the correct torque for different fastener sizes & applications

Check out our range of EDC gear on Amazon, where you’ll find our new 711 EDC torque driver. 711L EDC gear is all designed and built by EDC engineers for EDC users. We are so confident in the quality of our EDC gear design that we give a lifetime warranty when you register your 711L EDC tools on our website.
